We can renew through the mail, so may have to do it that way -just need an Alberta mail drop and a reliable friend/family member to forward the stickers - and hope they accept insurance info from Lewis and Lewis!! We will see when the time comes - so far that's still 2 years away as our renewal is in August and we'll be going back for summer 2013.

I don't recall them asking me for insurance info, but if they did, then they will accept Lewis and Lewis, as that is what is on our truck.

Being a scofflaw since March 2009 has cost me 100 pesos in mordida, so far so good.

South Dakota does not ask for insurance. It does not ask for residency.

Don't you have to bow to Mt Rushmore twice a day?

If by DEQ you mean the state emissions test, you can register your car without it. We've done it a couple times. Go to the Washington DOL web site and look for the emissions waiver form. It must be notarized which can be done at the consulate in Nuevo for a price ($30 last time I did it but I think it's gone up). Another alternative, if you return to Washington without the car, is to go to a local license agency where you can sign a notarized declaration that the car is out of state and then you can renew your license.

Yes I mean the DEQ inspection. I visited the Wa. Licensing website and looked everywhere, but no waiver forms for that are listed. I will check in person with a local licensing branch and ask them. I hope you're right, as that would make life much better for this situation.
