Keeping in mind the history of the author of the piece, this comment seems appropriate.

Mr. Brooks is a reliable conservative. In this column he's caricaturing things that we progressives say and think about Romney. He's making fun of US, not of Romney. If Mr. Brooks believed even five percent of what his parody paradoxically hints at, he'd be campaigning for Obama to be reelected. And it's not going to happen, guys. Mr. Brooks is laughing at you, and you shouldn't be laughing at him.
