What is the appeal of tattoo's? Serious question, not a judgement to those who choose to cover their bodies with them.

I think it relieves a certain sense of boredom with self and life, a feeling of insignificance and a lack of attention. Plus it's a fun thing to do when you get really drunk with friends. I would seriously question the motives of people who get tattoos only if they are sober when they do it. Otherwise...

I understand that tattoos are a fad and I have nothing against them. Being an old cowboy, I kind of think of it like branding, but being an artist, I can see it as an art form, although I'd personally rather be the creator of the art than the canvas. It is no different than any other permanent body decoration like breast implants or plastic surgery.

It seems that many more people have negative reactions to tattoos than they have to breast implants or tummy tucks. Not sure why.
