Need some Advice

Postby Chance » Fri Sep 07, 2012 4:00 pm

I may be posting this in the wrong place please move it if I have Rick

On January 9th of this year we rented a condo on Olas Altas just up from Pulpito,
this was through a private person no company was involve. At this time I was asked for a $600 deposit with a letter stating that if I have to cancel I do it within 90 days of arrival and I will receive my deposit back. I sent a bank draft for $1200 US dollars (my first mistake) going on the premise half now half later. Upon the receipt of the deposit I get a email now stating that if I cancel I will only receive only $600 back.

So I email them back saying that I gave $1200 to make the final payment easier and if I cancel I would expect it all back no response to that email ( my first clue that something was not right) anyway we where going so no big deal. As luck has it we had to cancel due to acceptable reasons.
I gave them 4 months 1 day notice of cancellation. At that time I was sent there cancellation policy stating that monthly renters are require to give 160 days notice
we were only staying 6 weeks.

After a few emails I was going to get $600 back from a friend of theirs that was coming back to Canada on Aug 15th and would mail it, today nothing. Luck has gone my way
( this does not happen to often) and we are able to come back down. I do not wish to stay at this condo for obvious reasons. No emails have been responded to.

My question is can I do anything while I am down there to solve this problem or an I going to just have to suck it up a lesson learned.

Your only leverage is to guess whether this landlord is claiming the rental revenue with the Hacienda. If not, they would likely to prefer to keep you happy in return for silence.

Did you get the listing from a website? Do they have a customer comment section?? Negative postings there or here and other boards could have serious renting consequences for them.

No its was just word of mouth that they had a condo for rent (condos the have more than one) but I
I never thought of looking just took it on faith met some other people that were staying there so I never thought of looking into that but I will see if they do have a listing on the web. I want to see if I can resolve this without having to name people
Thats tacky and dont want to go there if I dont have to.

You might get better response here if you name names. What have you got to lose?
