So this is a paid consulting firm telling their employers what they want to hear....

The reality is that Vallarta is just as safe as the safest big city in Canada or the US. It has crime, lots of it, and it has problems, lots of them, but it is still a good choice for retirement or tourism.

the biggest problems are gouging by local services and store owners, but, considering the extravagant currency exchange rate, who the fuck cares?

Many people here live on slave wages and any sane person would expect these people to skim once in a while. Not everyone thinks that slave labor is great and there is a very real revolutionary spirit here in Mexico, a spirit that does not accept being treated a second class citizens, as many gringos and Canadians expect and demand.

Normal life here is safe. Normal life here is wonderful if you have big bucks or if you fit in with your neighbors. The neighbors know the difference.

If you expect Mexico to be a reflection of your home town values, it is not. The bigbird tourists will always have a hard time here, especially when their money runs out.

Apparently, the rest of us are unable to read between the lines as well as Rick does?

What is it that you two don't understand about the reality of Vallarta in relation to this sponsored report?

Your responses make no sense.

Here is the report: http://gallery.mailchimp.com/8c6038b258fb968d9d8890f5b/files/Thomas_Dale_Associates.pdf

Try to ignore the glaring mistakes like El Nogalito being 2 hours outside of Vallarta. You would think that they would research their facts a little more thoroughly, especially on the major example they use to show that bus loads of people getting robbed is not a serious crime here. What kind of reliable research report would include such gross a mistake?

The report is totally one-sided, being only drawn from "official" political sources that have a very vested interest in showing only what they think people want to see and what will increase tourism. I'm not saying that this goal is bad. Vallarta needs tourists. They are its number 1 business. Because time share sales are the biggest part of that tourism business, the government here has to put on a very safe face to attract the type of retards needed to fuel that part of the industry.

Mexico is Mexico. It has always been different from what the bigbirds dreamed that it was. This report was designed to be read by the advertisement duped Disneyland tourists like the bigbirds.

El Nogalito would probably take 2 hours from the hotel zone by public bus (2 buses and a walk in from the highway). But the comment that 22 tourists were held up is misleading. Did they really research it?

I have been coming to Mexico for approx. 26 years I have owned property there and I find that Mexico is on the downward spiral people are are suffering from the Cartel BS and the Government is completely corrupt. I love the average Mexican people and their cultures but they are being taken advantage by the Cartels and their Government. I see that it is going to get worse until something drastic is done when that will happen I don't know but I feel Mexico is a bad investment at this time due to the perception of what might happen with this failing country, having said that where is a safe investment but at least in most other countries they are not cutting heads off and that makes for bad PR. I applaud Freeeye for trying to be positive but its a bit of a sinking ship as far as the PR goes and thats what most people listen to.
