Verizon cell...adding Mexico plan

Every question is a good one.

I have used the mexico plan with Verizon and it worked great. There is a problem with the time limit which may or may not be a problem. The plan states that "..... plan will be cancelled if less than half of your voice calls over three consecutive billing cycles are from within the Nationwide Rate and Coverage Area. " So, the plan will be great for you as long as you do not stay any longer than 3 months. I am going to get MagicJack the next time I come down.

Thanks again for all the comments! One more question: normally, with friends and family, I can call anyone with a Verizon phone without using any of my minutes.....will this feature work while I'm in Mexico, meaning when I call my kiddo (we share our minutes) will I have to use some of our minutes or will the call be with free minutes?

Rooster: while many people here love Magic jack, I've bought 3 jacks only to have the second and third one break when almost new....and Magic Jack customer service just jacked me around (ha ha) and never reimbursed me or sent me a working model. The first one lasted a full year before the solders inside broke, but their lies (about replacing the nonworking ones) ticked me off. Since I had my computer and internet access , I bought Skype for $6.99/month for unlimited calls Mex to US and Canada and felt it was a great deal.

Rooster,
if you do get a MagicJack make sure you get the MagicJack Plus There are many places in the states discounting the old MagicJack but the MJplus is much better. I have used a MJ since 97 without a problem, even had my land line removed so now I only have the one # whether in MX or Canada & anybody calling doesn't even know I'm not in Canada.
MJplus is nice as you don't need it plugged in to a computer. I switched to MJplus 2 years ago.
When in PV i connect through a Telcel USB stick & my MJplus works well but I cannot use Skype & it's pretty hard to beat $20/year.

We've used mj for about 4 years. First the old type and now, for the last year and a half, the plus. Never any problems. We first used vonage and had so many problems that we bought a mj just to "see" if it was any better and we never went back.

I have posted this before, but if you have an iphone, ipad or ipod touch, there is a free magic jack app. Someone may sell an adroid app. You still need a wireless router connection. The magicjack plus ads are misleading. They say you only need to plug it into an ac outlet. You still need a wireless connection.

I just picked up a magic jack plus, and so far it works great. I am hoping the performance will be the same in PV as it is here NOTB. The price is sure right.

How well it performs depends totally on the quality of your internet provider.
