We'll have our weekly meetup this week at Casa Isabel on Friday, June 8, from 6 to 8 pm. Half price house cocktails plus 20 peso cerveza. Isabel will also be offering a special 60 peso menu for us. Fish tacos, fish fingers, nachos, etc. ...good, ol' fashioned Canadian bar food. You can order a regular dinner, also, if you so desire.

Everyone is welcome. No need to be a "member" of this board to attend. You can't miss us. Our discounts apply to those of us hanging out on the bar stools and at the tall wooden tables behind the bar. They do not apply to the whole restaurant. Sometimes we may be meeting down at the pool bar, instead. We'll be easy to find.

If you're new, it's best to take a cab up to the Casa as parking is limited and it's a LONG walk (about 2 blocks up a steep hill). From the cab stands down on Insurgentes at Farmacia Guadalajara, for example, the ride is normally 40-50 pesos for a cab that holds up to 3 people. Cabs are also readily available for the trip back down to reality.

Come and enjoy a typical cool, pleasant tropical evening overlooking paradise. The sunsets are to die for. Whale season starts on Thursday so maybe they will come out of hiding for show as they often do.

When Isabel's dies down (as it does without her there), we will head over to the brand new Bar Oceano Rock and Roll grand opening on Basilio Badillo. Cheap everything. I want to check out this place. I've seen it inside and out before completion and now I want to see that is really going to be there.

Very good turnout last night at Isabel's. About 25 people braved the heat and the low seasonal sluggishness.

Even Bernie, one of my perennial antagonistas on the "other" forum put in an appearance. A photo of us hugging each other would have been priceless but the rabi' said she was on strike last night. No photos...

A few of us (maybe 10) went to the new Bar Oceano's grand opening after the meetup. It's still in the rough stage but there was lots of entertainment and free food although not many customers (it's that time of year..). Ol' Steve is working his ass off setting this place up and it is a big project. Basilio Badillo will never be the same when Oceano R&R is completed and running at full speed. Only one floor out of 3 was serving last night.

I have really good feelings about the high season this fall. Lots of changes are in the air. New energy and new ideas. A new malecon, a new pier, many new clubs and bars. There are rumors of a new ferry boat service on the bay and the energy levels are high. Even I am thinking of opening a bar. With the peso low in relation to the US$, this is the perfect time for anyone interested in buying in here to make the jump. Vallarta is up and down. It is on the rebound now.
