There is a new all-vegetarian restaurant on the south side, just in time for your visit.

"Fresh Vegetable Buffet", Olas Altas 499 corner of Gomez (across from Piazetta, Trattoria Michel)
open from 830am til 5pm, a small place with a few tables on the sidewalk (was an internet store).

Menu includes breakfast buffet for 60p, lunch buffet 90p
also for bkfst-- chilaquiles, huevo, frijoles + cafe for 40 p, other items such as hotcakes
also for lunch, 4 porciones + bebida for 50 p
I am going to love this place, I hope you will report back about your experience if you try it.

Thank you all for the responses and I will report back on all my experiences. When we arrived to day I asked my waiter at the Lindo Mar if they had any vegetarian items and he pointed out 3 on the lunch menu which I had never seen before. I had a delicious grilled vegie sandwich in a baguette. Im expecting that will be my experience anyplace that i go. Ron a Happy Vegan in PV

Another recently opened restaurant on the south side is NU at Amapas and Pulpito,
formerly Fuego and Banana Cantina. Open after 6pm from what I have heard.
There are no signs outside.

Yesterday there was a menu by the entrance showing soups, salads and tapas.
2 soups, 3 of the salads and 6 tapas on the menu were vegetarian.
I have not tried this place, would like to hear from anyone who has comments
about the food or other impressions.

We had tried India Gate when they first opened last year and were not impressed. We gave them another try last night with Gary's Groupies and must admit that they now have their act together. In addition to the spicy food, they even made a great spicy Caesar for me. Faye thinks they could use more curry, but everyone else was also impressed.

(The daughter of the Vancouver-based founders is the chef. She came out and talked to us as well.)

Sorry, India Gate doesn´t qualify as "vegan/vegetarian". My mistake mentioning it there.
Are there any vegetarian main dishes on the regular menu or restaurant week menu? No.
There are 2 veggie appetisers (samosas and pakoras sp?) both are fried, no thanks.
Dahl soup may be the one choice for a vegetarian who wants to try this popular restaurant.
Or maybe I will ask for your special salad!

Many thanks to Archie´s Wok for offering a vegetarian main dish during Restaurant Week
every year, always lovely presentation and delicious and still in the 189p price category.

Actually I have not tried it, but have you thought about asking them? I know that any Indian restaurant worth its rating should be able to respond to the request. After all, most of their offerings are vegan, and the things like butter chicken are just for gringos. BTW we tried all their mains, and the prawns were the winners with lamb second.

Now I agree that healthy is not something I associate with genuine Indian food...but yummy non-meat dishes are their specialty.

(We have a friend in Vancouver who has introduced us to many of their non-meat offerings.)

We're on a vegan diet with no oils allowed either...vegan is fairly easy, no oil is almost impossible.

In town, 100% Natural is excellent. They also serve meat but in our case it's a diet, not a philosophy so looking at a spare rib doesn't offend us.

In Nuevo, there's a Middle Eastern restaurant with excellent falafel and hummus, called Mediterraneo.

Planeta Vegetariano is, well, not so good.

Thanks for the other tips.
