Tortilla Soup Recipe

Postby lianasea » Fri Aug 10, 2012 10:46 am

A couple of years ago I think I saw a recipe for a local cook's Tortilla Soup. I can't find it by searching here. Does anyone have a copy of it that I could see? Thanks

I first found this recipe at least 5 years ago, and thought it strange at the time that the recipe had both "large peppercorns" and "small peppercorns" in it. Did some searching, and discovered that the large peppercoens should be whole allspice.

Thanks Sue, I wondered about that too!

Trying to find a Spanish def. of allspice is confusing. Google translate says pimienta de Jamaica. We buy green and red peppercorns at Super Cereales. They have allspice, which they label pimentón. It looks like a large peppercorn. So, the large peppercorn may be a translation in the recipe. When I looked up pimentón, the answer was paprika. It may depend on which Spanish speaking country that you buy the allspice. We have smoked hot paprika from Spain that is labelled pimentón. Another translation calls allspice pimentón dulce. Clear as mud. Pimentón is another indigenous plant of Mexico.
